The father told police that he was woken up by one of his four children who said someone was in the house at about 2:30 a.m.. The father instinctively grabbed his handgun and went to investigate. When he found a strange teen boy in bed with his daughter all hell broke loose.
At first, the daughter denied knowing the boy, probably out of both intense fear and embarrassment out of being caught. That most likely intensified the chaotic scene between the father and the teen boy. An argument ensued between the stranger and the father when he wouldn’t listen to the father’s commands.
When the teen reportedly reached for something, CBS News reports, the father shot and killed the boy. Authorities say the teen was unarmed.
The 16-year-old daughter later admitted to knowing the boy and letting him into the house.
Police in Spring, Texas have yet to release the name of the 55-year-old father or the dead boy, and would only say that authorities in Harris County continue to investigate the shooting.
Police responded to the incident around 2:30am after receiving a 911 call from a girl who said her father shot a man who was underneath her sister’s bed.
Authorities interviewed all four children at the home, and the father was taken to the hospital after complaining about a possible panic attack. It appears he was on several different medications.
The mom, who was at work at the time of the shooting, later showed up to drive her four children away in a minivan.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed yet. The case will be referred to a grand jury.
