EBONY blasted for Trayvon Martin covers
After releasing iconic covers dedicated to the memory of Trayvon Martin, a famed black publication is receiving harsh backlash and cries of racism. As previously reported, EBONY magazine has released four covers for their September issue showing Dwyane Wade, Spike Lee, Boris Kodjoe and their sons donning hoodies under the headline “We Are Trayvon.” Also included is the family of the slain teen who are profiled in the issue dedicated to exploring concerns around racial bias in America.
While the majority of people have praised EBONY for delving deeper into the Trayvon Martin case, a few detractors, rumored from primarily the tea party, took to Twitter to blast the mag for being racist and divisive. Furthermore, a rumor spread that the detractors, who’ve surely never read an issue of EBONY in their lives, were threatening to boycott in part because they were offended by the magazine’s name that celebrates black culture.

After being lambasted by racist rants, an EBONY staff writer tweeted snarky comments from the mag’s official Twitter account.
“The racist trolls on our timeline objecting to our September covers need to have a seat at a Klan meeting and get out of our mentions,” wrote the writer.
“We have so many Tea Party readers and followers. To lose all zero of them due to our September cover would be devastating,” they later added.
