Celebrity Twitter reactions to Angelina Jolie’s double mastectomy

The entertainment community reached out and gave superstar actress Angelina Jolie a warm, tight hug after she revealed in a New York Times op-ed piece that she had double mastectomy.

She bravely revealed that she has an 87 percent chance of developing breast cancer and, on top of that, a 50 percent chance of developing ovarian cancer because of her “faulty gene.” The longtime companion of Brad Pitt said her mother fought breast cancer for years before succumbing to the malignant medical malady at age 56. Jolie says she still mourns the fact that only one of her mother’s grandchildren ever got to see her face and experience Jolie’s mother’s love and warmth.

Jolie said she has recently gone through three months of preventive procedures, a double mastectomy, aimed at saving her life. She chose the venerated New York Times to share her story in order to maximize the reach and influence of her message in order to encourage other women to take proactive measures to prevent this devastating disease.
