'Saved by the Bell' Star Lark Voorhies Suffering From Mental Illness?

Heads definitely turned this May when a bizarre video of former “Saved By The Bell” star Lark Voorhies surfaced, showing her drastically altered appearance and bizarre behavior. But now, Voorhies’ behavior may just have a logical explanation now that her mother, Tricia, has claimed that her daughter is suffering from bipolar disorder.

Tricia shared the shocking revelation in a new interview with PEOPLE, in which she shares her frustrations over her daughter’s illness.

“There are things that have traumatized her,” says Tricia, 64, who shares a home with her daughter in Pasadena, Calif. “I care deeply about my daughter and I want her to resume her life.”

The magazine reveals that they’ve done a series of interviews with Voorhies, during which she would allegedly stop mid-sentence, stare off and mumble things to people who weren’t there.

However, according to RadarOnline, Voorhies claims that her interview with PEOPLE came at a “very powerful moment” and that she wasn’t talking to herself; she was talking to God.

“It’s like carrying on the interview in a hurricane,” Voorhies said. “Oh no. We’re alive in a major time of all-in-all prophecy … you caught me in moments of pray … I have a strong spiritual sense.”

Tricia says that she’s been trying to get Voorhies professional help for some time, but her efforts have been met with opposition.

“She’s trying so hard. She says she’s delayed, but she’s going to get there,” said Tricia, who also says that Voorhies’ 2001 divorce from her ex-husband, Miguel Coleman, mentally scarred her.

Though Voorhies does admit that her divorce was “a point of great depression,” she says that mental health professionals are ill-equipped to help her deal with her emotional demons.

“They can’t explain it,” said Lark, who has been resistant to psychiatric care. “They can’t treat in. They don’t know about it.”

Well, hopefully, Voorhies will eventually get the professional help she needs to properly deal with her bipolar disorder. Check out some other celebs with bipolar disorder below. –nicholas robinson
