The Obamas Sit Down With the Ladies of ‘The View’
After a series of separate appearances, the president and the first lady appeared as a couple on ABC’s “‘The View.” President Obama, 51, and Michelle Obama, 48, took to the talk show’s green couch Tuesday, Sept. 25, to discuss their 20-year-long marriage as well as foreign and national affairs. While there, President Obama was asked rather pointedly by Barbara Walters, “What would be so terrible if Mitt Romney were elected?” To which he responded, “We can survive, a lot but the American people don’t want to just survive. We want to thrive.”
In addition to discussing more serious matters, the First Couple discussed their personal life and admitted to sometimes having quarrels especially when Michelle is “being thoroughly unreasonable.” “You try to keep an even keel during the day, but there are times, after the day is done, when it comes out.” The First Lady also said that she “forgot” that her husband’s first Presidential debate would be a time conflict with their wedding anniversary. Obama and Mitt Romney will face off for the first time on October 3. “That’s cold!”, remarked Obama at Michelle’s joke. Viewers noted that The President and First Lady looked they couldn’t be happier and held hands throughout the interview.
The Obamas’ ‘View’ interview was taped Monday morning as the President had to deliver his annual address Tuesday to the opening session of the United Nations General Assembly. He later went on to address the Clinton Global Initiative, the organization founded by the 42rd president to combat poverty and promote economic growth. -danielle canada
