Entrepreneur Julian Lark turns up the fashion and beauty dial; organizes Atlanta Fashion Week

Julian Lark

Aussie band Cut Copy’s single titled “Blink and You Will Miss a Revolution” is apropos for Julian Lark’s meteoric rise. Lark , who we once knew as the celebrity stylist with dreams of designing his own fashion collection, publishing a fashion magazine and possibly starting a cosmetics line, caught us blinking.

Having graduated from American InterContinental University in Buckhead with a bachelor’s in fashion design and marketing, he’s at the forefront of fashion, way ahead of his peers, and has been at it for a decade.

What has changed over the course of 10 years?
“Social media is really huge now; the Internet has changed fashion and entertainment. I was recently flipping through the pages of a InStyle mag from 2007 and there was no mention of social media,” he says laughingly.”

How he made it …
“Building the right relationships and being passionate about your brand.”

What Lark is modest about is the fact he grew from working as a wardrobe stylist for celebrities like R&B songstresses Brandi and Syleena Johnson, actresses Terri J. Vaughn and Melinda Williams, rapper/TV personality Trina, The Braxtons, Ginuwine, DJ Babey Drew and others, to publishing Kontrol magazine, a fashion publication; creating Revel, a cosmetic line that features Dollhouse Collection and Heartbreaker Collection) and has been seen on Williams and Vaughn, Demetria McKinney, “Real Housewives of Atlanta’s” Cynthia Bailey, singer-songwriter K. Michelle, “Basketball Wives” Laura Govan, “R&B Divas” Meelah, SWV’s Tamara George and “The New Atlanta’s” Africa Miranda; to organizing fashion week in Atlanta (June 26-29, 2014) and working on a pilot for an unnamed television sitcom.

Lark is constantly embracing new ideas and growing in his craft. “I recently returned from a trip to Los Angeles and I am filled with new ideas. I am going to Paris for Fashion Week this September, my very first time there so I am very excited about where God is taking my life right now,” shares Lark with a buzzing smartphone in his hand.

Why is he taking a chance with a fashion week in Atlanta?
“Atlanta is not where it should be in fashion. People have tried to do it before but the feedback has always been negative. My goal is to create an event that’s really chic and a platform for up-and-coming designers to really show they have the star power like the bigger names.”

Fashion in the City of Atlanta will be held at Social Haven. For more information, visit kontrolmag.com. Follow them on Twitter and Instagram @KMFASHIONWEEK.
