Fashion is in the air in New York City and while many are attending shows and parties all about town, one of the most anticipated events of this season was the launch party for Target’s collaboration with fashion darling Phillip Lim. And guess who snagged a place on the guest list? That’s right rollingout was rubbing elbows with Jessica Alba and Solange Knowles at Spring Studios in New York City to kick off Fashion Week.
The energy was electric in the room. The guests were eager to get their hands on the pre-sale items that were offered and by the end of the night, the racks were empty. Our prediction is that by September 15 shoppers will go bananas so get ready and set to shop.
For the party, Target produced the world’s longest cinemagraph, an interactive digital image with moving parts that virtually took you on a tour of six North American cities. The exhibit completely blew us away. As party guests stepped up to the start of the screen, they were directed to blow on an apparatus to get the interactive installation moving. A gust of wind appeared on a section of the screen and we were transported to Los Angeles, then on to Dallas, Toronto, Chicago, Miami, and finally, to New York where a virtual Phillip Lim walked guests through his entire Target collection – from pajamas to party dresses. There were more than a dozen interactive areas in the cinemagraph that took over four months to produce. Two of the models were present, Jean and Valerie, of Idiosyncratic Fashionistas. Other notables in attendance were HGTV’s Sabrina Soto, fashion bloggers, Claire Sulmers and Kela Walker and Bevy Smith along with her Fashion Queens co-host Miss Lawrence. Uber Fashionistas June Ambrose and Tai Beauchamp flowed through as well.
The superstars showed us how to wear and pair the Phillip Lim designs:
Jessica Alba wore the ‘Boom’ print sweatshirt ($29.99) – which we predict will be one of the pieces many people will be hoping to get their hands on, says Target’s Greg Cunningham. Jessica styled her sweater with two-tone black-and-blue tuxedo pants ($39.99) and a 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target bag, with red Christian Louboutin ‘Decollete 554′ pumps completing her laidback “I-want-every-piece” look.
Solange Knowles, rocked a high-low mix, the singer worked a navy-and-black tuxedo ($59.99) with a colorful animal-printed skirt ($29.99). Givenchy sandals and a Fendi clutch accessorized her look.
The 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target collection hits stores September 15, with prices ranging from $19.99 to $299.99 for apparel and $19.99 to $59.99 for accessories
