Beyoncé lip-synced at the 2013 Presidential Inauguration
Did Beyoncé really bowl over fans Monday with her Inauguration performance or were viewers actually listening to a pre-recording of her pristine vocals? That’s the question that’s being asked today now that several news organizations claim to have proof that the songstress was actually lip-syncing.
As previously reported Beyoncé performed the “Star Spangled Banner” at the 2013 Presidential Inauguration and wowed the crowd, even dramatically removing an earpiece during her stunning rendition of the tune. Several news correspondents including CNN’s Piers Morgan contended that her performance was the best they’d ever heard of the traditional American song.
Now however both CNN and the London Times have confirmed that the singer was not singing live. According to a spokesman who remains unnamed, the U.S. Marine Corp Band that backed Beyoncé was not playing their instruments nor was the songstress actually singing. Instead the band had already pre-recorded with her the night before.
The spokesman noted that its standard procedure to record a backing track before a live performance and said that at the last minute Beyonce decided to rely solely on the studio version. “We all know Beyoncé can sing, we don’t know why she chose to use the pre-recorded track,” the spokesman added. Reps for Beyoncé have yet to respond.
