Jay-Z took the time to share his perspective on Jay-Z this weekend. Just before he and Justin Timberlake took the stage at Yankee Stadium this past weekend, Jay spoke to journalist Elliott Wilson about the “Legends of the Summer” Tour and his latest Magna Carta Holy Grail album. During the interview, Jay talked about his discography and where his latest album sits in the pantheon of Jay-Z albums. The Brooklyn rapper has stated unequivocally that he thinks Magna Carta is one of his best albums, and allowed that he has “four classics” in his canon.
Which four albums are Jay-Z’s classics? We decided to break down his entire discography to get an idea of which would rank at the top.
For the purposes of this list, we only listed albums that are official Jay-Z solo studio albums–so no soundtracks/compilations and no collaborative albums like Watch the Throne or Best of Both Worlds, and no live albums.
