Keyshia Cole may not cause a big ruckus like many of her male counterparts, but that’s only because she is here strictly for the ladies. Jumping right into Cole’s fifth studio album, Woman to Woman with “Enough of No Love,” sets the stage for the return of breakup music. In an era where men seem to have unlimited women to choose from and the common theme of many hip-hop songs is to “love her and leave her,” Cole has chosen to take a moment to reach down in her deep dark memories to give the lonely and brokenhearted women out there something to sing to.
Cole‘s album is therapy in itself. As she touches on infidelity, holding onto a man who refuses to do you right, and falling in love with someone you hardly know, any woman scorned will find much solace in this collection.
Unimpressed with the dynamic that many of the features played on this album, Meek Mill joins Cole’s therapy session in “Zero” and Ashanti on “Woman to Woman.”
If you carefully listen to the lyrics, you may find yourself trying to solve Cole’s problems for her. Many of our problems would be solved if women would just be brave enough to walk away, in an attempt to find true love and happiness. Instead most women sing the tune of “Get It Right,” and would rather complain.
“Missing Me” tells the tale of a woman who fell in love with a man when they hardly had time to get to know each other.
“Trust and Believe,” which was recently released with a music video continues on the path of the woman thinking about a man who has played her for her friend. The video will make you want to reach into the screen and shake the both of them.
Cole lets a heartbreak go for a minute on “Wonderland” featuring Elijah Blake, then sings for all the prisoners of war, determined to fight for love against all odds in songs “I Choose You” and “Next Move” feat. Robin Thicke.
If you’re not a pure Cole fan or R&B head, the album will seem to drag toward the end, but finishes strong with “Signature.” It’s safe to say the old Keyshia Cole came back for a little conversation, Woman to Woman.
