On Monday, April 27, Mariah Carey made a grand entrance in Las Vegas to kick off her new residency at Caesars Palace. The superstar arrived in style, as she pulled up in a pink convertible before being carried through the hotel’s casino by a group of men, Cleoptara-style.
Of the show, “Mariah #1 to Infinity,” which kicks off next month, Carey tells “Extra’s” Tracey Edmonds that she will sing all of her hits, including her newest song, “Infinity.” “So it’s the 18 No. 1 songs that I will be performing then, there’s the newest song, which is ‘Infinity.’ ”
Many assuming “Infinity” is aimed at her soon-to-be ex-husband, Nick Cannon, Carey revealed the true motivation behind the single, “Honestly, it’s about loving yourself first.”
She continued, “Infinity is like love equals you first, the line, there’s a section of the song where it’s like a chant, it’s like ‘you’re leaving, you’re leaving, you’re out the door infinity loving me more and more,’ meaning you have to love yourself first, it can’t be all about somebody else’s thing or their issues, it has to be you and then you can deal with the rest of the things in your life…Yeah, we had fun with the lyrics, but I do that with a lot of songs. … Listen to ‘Touch My Body,’ listen to ‘Obsessed,’ we go back and forth with it,” Carey said, explaining she wrote the song for the show calling it a “show piece.”
The 45-year-old tapped famed director Brett Ratner to direct the video for “Infinity.” The two, who have worked together previously, sparked headlines they were dating after being spotted together recently. Carey laughed off the rumors. “Of course there were these rumors of our fabulous love affair, darling,” she said.
Edmonds asked her if she wanted to clear the air, the singer joked, “I want everyone to know that we’re getting married next week, me and Brett forever, and ever, infinity and beyond.
“We’re really good friends, he’s super talented, and I’m just really proud of him and everything he’s doing,” said Carey.
Carey’s not the only one excited to start her residency in Vegas, Carey saying “dem babies,” Monroe and Moroccan, are loving Vegas as well, “They’re loving it here, they really are, they’re doing all their activities, they’re enjoying themselves, they have each other, they have their routine,” she said.
“Mariah #1 to Infinity” opens May 6 at Caesars Palace. Will you be grabbing tickets?
