The hip-hop community was dealt a terrible blow on Nov. 8, when news spread that iconic rapper Heavy D had passed away earlier in the day. Now, new details have emerged, possibly explaining his death.
Yesterday, it was reported that Heavy D died at around 1 p.m. after experiencing difficulty breathing as he walked into his Beverly Hills, Calif., condominium. A report from TMZ now claims that 44-year-old rapper-actor, born Dwight Arrington Myers, had just returned to the condo from a shopping trip and as he walked up the stairs, he began to experience trouble breathing.
Adam Mills, a designer and acquaintance of Heavy D who was in the building, found the distressed rapper leaning against the railing and proceeded to cradle Heavy D in his lap as he called 911 at around 11:25 a.m. At the time, Heavy D was still conscious and told Mills, “I can’t breathe. I can’t breathe.” Paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after and brought Heavy D to a local hospital, where he still had a pulse.
While police have ruled out foul play, saying that they only know Heavy D’s death was “medical,” some are claiming that Heavy D ultimately died of a heart attack, but that theory has not been confirmed.
However, an associate of Heavy D told the gossip site that the rapper was ill with pneumonia at the time of his death.
Our condolences go out to Heavy D’s family and friends. Stay tuned as this story develops. –nicholas robinson
