The Zulu Nation is an organization committed to promoting the “Love, Unity and Having Fun” tenets of its founder, the legendary Afrika Bambaataa. It’s also an unofficial collective of legendary hip-hop artists; which has included KRS-One, De La Soul, Queen Latifah, Ice Cube, and several more. Q-Tip is included in that group of artists, and he surprised many of his fans when he announced this weekend that Young Money superstar Lil Wayne has joined the fold.

“@LilTunechi is now a member of the ZULU NATION! Join us [email protected],” Q-Tip tweeted. “Help me in welcoming @LilTunechi to fold of the Zulus.”

Q-Tip didn’t really elaborate on how Weezy became affiliated with the Zulu Nation, and Wayne himself has yet to publicly comment on the “announcement.” The tweet from Tip came as a bit of a surprise to many of his followers, he doesn’t associate Wayne’s brand of mainstream rap with what the Zulu Nation has typically seemed to typify aesthetically. Nonetheless, Q-Tip seemed enthusiastic about the newest Zulu.

Q-Tip has been affiliated with the Zulu Nation since the beginning of his career, when he was the frontman for the famed rap group A Tribe Called Quest, who maintained a close affiliation with Bambaataa and the Zulu Nation, as well as the rest of their legendary Native Tongues’ brethren.
