Pop superstar Rihanna showed her generous side this week. The singer was seated next to Los Angeles Police Commission President Steve Soboroff last week at a Los Angeles Clippers playoff game; and Soboroff asked the starlet to take a selfie for him to share with the department. Soboroff wanted to boost morale after a series of tragic deaths within the LAPD — there have been  five officers killed in the last two months. As they attempted to take the selfie, however, Rihanna dropped the phone and broke it.

To apologize for smashing his phone, Rihanna issued a donation of $25,000 to the LAPD. The money is to be deposited into a fund that helps cadets and the families of slain police officers.

Rihanna also autographed the broken phone. “Sorry! I (heart) LADP [sic]. Rihanna,” she reportedly wrote. The phone was put up for auction on eBay.

The two also addressed the incident via Twitter.

“Sorry I broke your phone @SteveSoboroff 🙂 @takepartlive 10PM ET on @pivot_tv @LAPoliceFdtn #specialannouncement #tonight” Rihanna tweeted. “#noworries & thanks so much for your $25,000 contribution to @LAPoliceFdtn u can drop my new #iphone at next @LAClippers game:)” Soboroff responded.

As of Thursday, the bidding had surpassed $10,000 on the broken phone.
