Snoop Dogg has always been known for his endorsement of vices like liquor and marijuana, but now the rapper is being bashed by noted hip-hop activist and writer Minister Paul Scott for promoting the new caffeine-laced alcoholic beverage, Colt 45 Blast.
According to allhiphop.com, Snoop recently inked a deal with Pabst Brewing Company to promote several of their products, including Colt 45 and the new caffeine-laced “energy” drink.
After learning of Snoop’s endorsement deal, Scott lashed out at Snoop in a video message, accusing him of helping the brewing company to market Colt 45 Blast to young, impressionable hip-hop listeners.
“It’s called Colt 45 Blast because they are trying to blast the minds of our young people,” said Scott in the video. “Snoop Dogg of all people, you should know what alcohol has done to all oppressed communities … when you put a Colt 45 to your mouth [to drink], you are really putting a Colt 45 to your brain.”
Scott may have a legitimate reason to be so misled by Snoop’s endorsement of Colt 45 Blast.
The fruity 23.5 ounce drink contains 12 percent alcohol and is being deemed by many critics as the successor to the deadly and popular caffeinated alcoholic beverage, Four Loko, which was banned in some states before being revamped sans the caffeine.
Scott closes out his video by pleading with Snoop to stop his endorsement of Colt 45 Blast.
“Snoop, I am appealing to you. Don’t do this to our people. Don’t sell our people out for thirty pieces of silver,” said Scott. “Don’t make the same mistake you made with St. Ides with a new generation. Look around and see the damage you’ve done.”
