Soulja Boy will not be purchasing a $55 million jet. Greg Miller, a rep for Soulja Boy, claimed that the story was an “elaborate rumor.”
According to a report released by TMZ on July 29, Soulja Boy purchased a private jet for $35 million. It was also reported that he paid an additional $20 million to equip the jet with hardwood cabinets, four liquor bars, flat-screen TVs, a luxurious restroom and Italian leather seats.
TMZ claims that Soulja Boy told one of their reporters that he bought the jet as a birthday gift.
After the story was posted on TMZ’s website, CBS, NBC, New York Post, Yahoo.com, and other major outlets also reported the erroneous story. Soulja Boy is apparently getting the last laugh.
Although Soulja Boy often makes himself appear to be a caricature of a rapper by wearing gaudy jewelry, creating playful dances, and lacking great lyrical skills, he has a knack for marketing himself. On a day when very few people would have thought to utter his name, Soulja Boy created a publicity stunt that got the attention of most major news outlets. –amir shaw
