African Americans exhibit extreme hypocrisy when it comes to its tolerance of black female and male homosexuality.
Based upon the careers of celebrities such as new talk show queen Ellen DeGeneres — females announcing that they are gay is no longer an automatic career killer. But the same cannot be said of men — especially black men.
People in the urban set have pretty much assumed that Queen Latifah is gay, though she refused again to elaborate on her sexual proclivities on “Larry King Live” recently, but her popularity remains strong nationwide.
It is also now being presumed that Dana Owens will suffer little fallout from the pictures showing her stealing a romantic moment with longtime girlfriend Jeanette Jenkins aboard Alicia Keys’ yacht in France.
But if some Hollywoood hunk like Jamie Foxx or Will Smith or Denzel Washington were to be caught slobbing down a male companion in public, the black community would darn near jump off bridges.
Not only would blacks’ collective heads implode from the shock, the community would disown them immediately. Imagine the black male heartthrob who comes onto the scene using his sex appeal to acquire fame, riches and a legion of loyal female fans, but then later announce that he was gay the whole time? He would be exiled and have to seek asylum in another country. We may soon see what happens to Foxx, if you believe what Montana Fishburne had to say via Twitter that Foxx recently made a gay sex video that will be out soon.
Why is it that we harbor such vastly different perceptions when it comes to black male and female homosexuals? Why would the biggest black male stars cause our blood to curl if they announced they were gay?
Funny thing is, we can tolerate sexual dysfunction and pecularities in males as long as it is not gay sex. Stories of Morgan Freeman having sex with his step granddaughter failed to generate many seismic quakes in the community, and he merely dusted himself off from the scandal and kept it pushing. Even R. Kelly, who many people believe turned on the human water works on an underage girl and routinely prowls McDonald’s like a homeless person rifling through the dumpster, did not repulse the community very much. But let that be a young boy instead of a girl that Morgan or Kelly allegedly got caught with and they’d be sauteed from the fire of public rebuke.
