Rachel Dolezal apparently wanted more time. According to The Spokesman-Review, Dolezal sent an email to members of the Spokane NAACP to postpone the scheduled meeting that was to take place on June 15.
Dolezal was going to address the controversy of her racial identity during the meeting; however, she sent a letter to members on June 14 stating, “Due to the need to continue discussion with regional and national NAACP leaders, tomorrow’s meeting is postponed and will be rescheduled.”
An hour after Dolezal sent the email, board member Lawrence Burnley replied by stating, “I don’t see any language in the by-laws that empowers you, or any one member, to arbitrarily cancel/postpone tomorrow’s meeting.”
Burnely and another member of the NAACP revealed that the meeting will go on as scheduled.
Dolezal has faced criticism since it was discovered that she is a White woman who has portrayed herself as a Black woman for years.
