Who were the Big 6 in the Civil Rights Movement?

The termBig Six refers to the active leaders of civil rights organizations during the height of the African-American Civil Rights Movement These men were instrumental in the organization of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963, as well as, other organizations formed during that time.

Everyone is familiar and knows who Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his legacy but what about the other five men so helped Dr. King form these organizations and movements in hopes of equality and freedom for blacks.


Of the six John Lewis is the only living member to see how far we have come and witnessing President Barack Obama as the first black President of the U.S.
