There were several times during the NBA playoffs when a few sports critics suggested that the Mavs didn’t have what it takes to make it to the Finals. How will this team continue to prove the naysayers wrong?

This team is resilient. We never give up until the buzzer sounds. We’re able to do certain things that a lot of other teams can’t do. We are very deep with quality players. We have multiple guys who can have big games. So, this series should be interesting.

Shawn Marion of Dallas Mavs Discusses NBA Finals, Summer Fashion and Giving BackYou’re known as one of the most fashionable players in the NBA. What are some cool fashion tips for the summer?

Fashion is all about where you’re going. I love cargo shorts because I can rock those everyday in the summer. V-neck T-shirts and shirts with crazy sayings always work well. If I’m going out at night, I’ll wear some casual shoes or Chuck Taylors. If I go out, I’m alway dressed for the occasion.

What will you be focusing on once the season concludes?

I’m working on a TV series. I sat down with a TV crew, and they are filming me dealing with my mother and all of my sisters. The show is called “The Ladies in My Life.”

How do you choose to give back to the community?

I do an annual giveaway for 10 families each year. I was raised by a single mother, so I know how hard it is. So, I look to give back. I also do a free camp every year for kids.

The NBA Draft will be occurring soon. What advice do you have for rookies about making it on and off the court?

You have to know why people are around you. Life in the NBA can be overwhelming at times, but you have to enjoy yourself and take care of your family. Don’t try to compete with the veterans when it comes to buying things. You have to live within your means.
