The WWE may want Michael Sam to come over to the world of professional wrestling, but it looks like the NFL hopeful’s derailed football dreams may get back on track very soon. After being cut from the St. Louis Rams this weekend, reports claim that the Dallas Cowboys may sign Sam to their team.
As previously reported, Sam was cut from the Rams just minutes before they completed their final roster on Saturday. The Rams also decided not to sign Sam to their practice squad and after clearing waivers, Sam became a free agent.
Although many questioned whether the openly gay star would get a second chance to play in the NFL, ESPN and NFL.com writers Adam Schefter and Ian Rappaport recently reported that the Dallas Cowboys are flying Sam in for a physical at the team’s headquarters today.
During his time with the Rams, Sam compiled three sacks and 11 tackles throughout four preseason games, which leads many to think that Dallas, which is considered to have a weaker defensive line, could benefit from having Sam on their team.
Although Sam was named the SEC co-defensive player of the year in 2013, the defensive end, who was the 249th pick in the seventh round of the draft, is one of eight out of 41 players from his round that has not been signed to a team.
Hopefully, that changes soon and Sam can make his way onto the Cowboy’s practice roster. – nicholas robinson
