Treach, Vinnie and DJ Kay Gee, also known as Naughty by Nature, are taking a page from the TLC handbook of comebacks and asking fans to fund their return to music. According to their Kickstarter rep,  “The campaign is a celebration of their 25 years in the music industry and they wanted to do something with and for the fans: create more music! The project is to help pay for recording, mixing and mastering the EP. Backers can expect tracks with special guests and unexpected collabs with artists from different genres on the new album.”

Unlike TLC and some of the other artists known for successful Kickstarter campaigns, hip-hop fans haven’t heard nor seen Naughty by Nature in the last decade. The only sightings of the trio were some adult movies Treach allegedly made a few cameo appearances in a few years back. Former radio host-turned television host Wendy Williams was less than enthusiastic about the hip-hop group known for records like “Hip Hop Hooray” and “OPP” being able to raise funds to return to music. Williams suggested the group’s music was less than timeless and that the appeal died with the trends of the time. Still, with the resurgence of and appreciation for ’90s hip-hop and R&B, a Naughty by Nature reunion could yield a few dope collaborations.

“Working with Kickstarter means that we will be able to have complete creative control over our new music. We will be able to do it the way that we want. More than anything we want to deliver a fresh new EP that also has that classic Naughty vibe. It has been years since we’ve all been in the studio together and the process of working on these songs has been really exciting creatively,” Vinnie says.

Only time will tell if Naughty by Nature will be able to motivate fans to fund their comeback. For more info or to donate to the fund, visit:
