Chicago’s South Loop is hot. New developments are popping up
everywhere. And among those new condominiums and homes, there are new
businesses too.

The latest addition to the area – Marble Slab Creamery – officially
opened its doors Aug. 9. For Glen and Renee Richardson, it’s a dream
come true. Both have long work histories in corporate America. Glen’s
restaurant experiences gave him the people skills and Renee’s work with
Women of Vision & Destiny provided her with strategic skills.

“My husband has always wanted to open his own business. I was running a
nonprofit. The Lord was telling me I was already running a business; it
was the same process, same skill set,” says Renee.

The idea came about during a trip home to Renee’s native Georgia. While
there, Renee checked out the new mall development and as she was
walking around, she happened upon an ice cream place whose concept was
so unique, she knew she had to bring the idea back to Chicago. Some
time passed and four years later they decided to step out on faith.

Home to “the freshest ice cream on Earth” Marble Slab uses the finest
ingredients and makes all their ice cream, cakes and cones on-site.
Filled with a team of bright, young faces, the little sweet shop is
awaiting your order.

“I relate this to Jay Leno [‘The Tonight Show’] or ‘[The] Arsenio Hall
Show.’ Every day is showtime. I am a coach. I like motivating people –
especially young people,” says Glen. – tony binns
