Regional Business Manager, LifeScan
The diabetes epidemic is a serious health issue that has had a
significant impact on the quality of life for many generations of
African Americans. With new medical opportunities being available for
black communities and the advancement of technology, more is being done
to combat diabetes.
As LifeScan’s regional business manager for the St. Louis market, Chris
Sanford offers a blood glucose testing product, the One Touch Ultra and
One Touch Ultra 2, so that people with diabetes can live their lives
without limits. The device records a patient’s blood sugar level before
and after a meal.
“We’re actually here to help the physicians and the healthcare
professionals here understand how important not only monitoring but
managing your diabetes is for the well-being of all the people who are
going to be here. This is the only meter that has the cheapest co-pay
across the board, so what’s going to happen is your patients are going
to pay anywhere from $5 to $10 for their strips — versus anywhere from
$45 to $50,” explains Sanford.
LifeScan wants people with diabetes to know which foods can actually help them regulate their blood sugar levels.
“We’ve got a ton of great products and the best educational materials
to help individuals understand how this is going to impact their life
and eventually help them to stop getting things like amputations,
hypertension and high blood pressure. Diabetes is actually the root
cause for most of those things,” says Sanford. – jason thompson
