President and CEO, BCT Partners

Dr. Randall Pinkett is more than an image-blasting, stupendous example of African American business astuteness and ingenuity. Pinkett used his spectacular performance on “The Apprentice” to audaciously proffer images of black men that’s fundamentally incongruent with what’s traditionally proliferated through mainstream news organs.

“It’s not my reality when I look at [African Americans] on TV. My reality is that I see successful doctors and lawyers and entrepreneurs and hardworking individuals in communities across the country who aren’t represented in our media,” says Pinkett, whose educational portfolio includes four degrees procured from the venerated Oxford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. “It’s one of the greatest sources of pride to present a positive image of African Americans.”

Pinkett, president and CEO of BCT Partners, spoke at the award-winning Miller Urban Entrepreneur Series to “encourage, inspire and provide my observations about what it takes to build an actual enterprise. I’m talking about an entity that will last and stand the test of time,” he says. “Not just storefronts. Not just mom-and-pop operations. But thriving, successful enterprises that employ community members that create wealth and give back to the communities. It’s an issue that is very near and dear to me.”

The season-four winner of “The Apprentice” says African American proprietors must institute mechanisms and processes to prepare successors in their businesses to enhance its chances for perpetuity. He also elucidated to the audience the importance of developing a strong team that will enhance, and amplify your own. “Look at Donald Trump for that matter,” he explained. “He had George Ross — who was his legal advisor — always working [with him] side by side. The message is this: certainly bring your talents to the table, but make sure you round out that talent with a team, because teams create success, not individuals.” –terry shropshire
