The radio talk show provides an outlet for Houston listeners to speak out on controversial topics “It gets very heated around here on Sunday mornings,” Watkins says of the on-air forums. “I try to take the position of the listeners because that allows the audience to be more comfortable. And I think that our listeners respect that we will uncover the issues that the mainstream media doesn’t want to talk about.” Watkins, who is also senior vice president of the Urban League, says, “We have to provide top-notch service to the community. So when Houston Mayor Bill White offered her a position as the director of Boards and Commissions, Cabral quickly set out to assist organizations and groups that were working to create a better future for all Houstonians. “It has been a great experience to work for the city of Houston,” Cabral says. “It’s been an exciting time … and we have made changes and built on things to make it better in the community. dr. bridget hilliard – on the front lines faith First Lady, New Light Christian Church New Light Christian Church has been a beacon of hope in Houston since 1984. Dr. Bridget Hilliard has played an import role in making sure that the church continues to aid those in need. “New Light continues to make an impact [on] the lives of people around the world with our television ministry,” Hilliard says. “[We] have a 90-day drug rehabilitation program for men … with a success rate of 89 percent. Over 8,000 [people] have gone through the program and remain drug-free today.” Hilliard believes more blessings are coming. “I am hopeful that we will continue to make an impact … through the teaching of God’s word, and by by providing wholesome fellowship through an authentic worship experience,” she says. |
