Auto manufacturers were surprised in 2007 to learn that the SUV had finally lost its dominance in sales. Big boy SUVs took a backseat to new and improved CUVs (crossover utility vehicles). CUVs are basically SUVs built on car platforms instead of truck platforms. Here are three CUVs that should be hits in 2008.
2008 lincoln mkx
The MKX was designed as a replacement for the truck-based Aviator. What stands out most about the MKX is its luxurious interior, which comes with heated and cooled front seats. The back seat has adjustable backrests and 69 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats folded. Under the hood, the MKX sports a 3.5-liter, 263-hp V-6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission.
2008 ford edge
The Ford Edge is impressive with its capacity to accommodate five passengers and to carry 8-foot long items when the front and rear seats are folded. Drivers will also enjoy the sporty chrome grille design that was first seen on the Ford Fusion. The Edge has a 3.5 liter V-6 engine and can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
2008 chevrolet equinox
Fans of Chevrolet will be satisfied by the safety features on the 2008 Equinox. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the Equinox five stars in crash tests without air bags. Antilock disc brakes, traction control and stability control are also standard features on the Equinox. It comes equipped with a 3.6-liter 264-hp engine.
