Caralene Robinson presents a $10,000 check to the Chicago Urban League.
In an effort to fight the rising unemployment rate in Chicago, Boost Mobile and the Chicago Urban League recently hosted a job fair and employment training workshop. The flailing economy has caused the city of Chicago to experience a severe increase in job losses, up from 4.9 percent in ’08 to 7.6 percent and counting in 2009.
Over 250 attendees visited the Chicago Urban League offices to learn firsthand from professional business coaches, Althea Taylor and Cheryl Freeman-Smith. Several local retailers were also on hand to accept applications from job seekers. Boost Mobile provided valuable information via their seminars and their director of marketing, Caralene Robinson, shed light on the crucial dos and don’ts of the job hunt.
“Boost Mobile is honored to be working with the Chicago Urban League to host a career workshop for local residents in need of extra resources during this down economy,” Robinson said. “We are committed to making an impact at the community level, and through this partnership, we hope to make a difference in the Chicago job market and encourage others to do the same.”
To cap the event, Boost Mobile donated $10,000 to the Chicago Urban League to aid in their community efforts. As part of their 2009 campaign to reach out and give back to urban communities nationwide, Boost Mobile has held similar events in Boston and New York City. –gavin philip godfrey
