Casa BACARDI – Puerto Rico
The Casa BACARDI Rum Distillery in Cantaño, Puerto Rico, a short 30-minute drive from San Juan, offers a wonderful introduction to the history of the brand and the family that founded the iconic spirit. Nestled on 127 bucolic acres, you can belly up to the bar inside the bat-shaped visitor’s pavilion to enjoy complimentary cocktails while you wait for the tour to begin. The free tour lasts an hour and begins in the lobby, which features captivating murals comprised of hand painted tiles and a circular pool from which the company’s mascot, the bat, rises. Then it’s off to view a short film before venturing into the areas that hold historical documents and the huge oak casks that were used in the early days of production. Along the way you can inhale the heady aroma of a variety of rums, then stop in the lounge for a run-down of mixology, BACARDI-style. On the final stop of the tour, you even get to record a short video to send to friends and family about the great time you had on the Casa BACARDI tour. Bottoms up! –michele fling
