From the very beginning of Wendy and Lucy, it’s clear that anyone who watches this engrossing character study has to have patience. Although the film has a running time of just 80 minutes, it seems longer because the plot takes time to develop. Wendy is a down and out young woman who hopes to start a new life. Instead, she gets stranded in Portland, Ore., and loses her dog, Lucy. Michelle Williams’ performance as Wendy is excellent. Dialogue is often keep to a minimum in this movie, which means it’s the acting that drives Wendy and Lucy. Lovers of indie cinema will find a lot to enjoy watching this truly bittersweet movie. –dark abyss
