American Intercontinental University President Peter C. Correa says the information superhighway – which permeates our way of life – and the temperamental economy have helped inaugurate a permanent paradigm shift in the American educational system. Correa says it is paramount that education in the new millennium accomplishes several key objectives: offer a menu of disciplines that can lead to well-paying, long-term careers; increase graduates’ marketability and flexibility; offer real-world practical applications; create an ambiance conducive for prospective students from diverse demographics to learn and grow; and be delivered in ways that correspond with our modern lives. AIU is the quintessential exemplification of this.
“That’s why I’m excited. Number one, we have a good, quality program. But we also deliver it in the ways and means commensurate to the 21st century, so that a person can still have a life,” Correa says from the suburban Atlanta campus. “That person can still be a mother. You can still be a father. You can still have a job. And at the same time, we maximize the time on task because we do leverage the technology.”
AIU expertly fuses modern technology and education to deliver it in ways that are more convenient to the average working American, Correa says. AIU boasts campuses in Atlanta, London, Houston and Weston, Fla. Students can major in such disciplines as: business, criminal justice, design, healthcare management, fashion, interior design, media production, visual communication and information technology. Studying can be done online and/or in-class settings.
In addition to real-time application, there will be some unintended benefits to matriculating through AIU, Correa emphasizes. “One, you’re able to be flexible to your needs. Two, in the process going through this learning experience, you’re enhancing your technical skills. All of a sudden to you’ll know how to do a robust intellectual search. You become a 21st century learner and a producer,” Correa says. “We’re teaching the actual skills sets that [are] needed for the 21st century. If you take an online course and have to rely on the computer, you become better at Word, you become better at Excel, you become a better researcher, and you become a better formatter.”
And that, simply and undoubtedly, will help the students become better workers with better pay, which will lead to a better way of life.
