Jerry Clark: A Mother’s Day Tribute to My Wife
The
moment I realized I wanted to marry my wife, Schjuan O’Neal Clark, was
when she met my mama. My mama had met other women before her, but when
she met my future wife, my mother’s whole demeanor changed. The
feedback and the whole vibe, it was just surreal. I saw the interaction
between the woman who had taught me everything and I knew I wanted
those same qualities in my woman. My mom must have seen those same
qualities in her because she immediately embraced her. Ten years of
marriage later, I know it was the right choice.
My wife is my best friend. She’s the epitome of a true black woman.
She’s loyal, spiritual, trustworthy, romantic, kind, unselfish. Her
motherly qualities are unmatched and I wouldn’t choose anyone else to
raise our three wonderful offspring. She is fearless, tireless and she
sacrifices everything for the betterment of our family and me.
I compare my household to a football team, I’m the quarterback, and
she’s my offensive line. The quarterback cannot be successful without
great blocking. The game of life is won in the trenches and I wouldn’t
want to go to battle with anyone but her. She’s proven to be not only
by my side, but most of the time in front of me. She’s helped mold my
personal and professional life. She’s very understanding of the travel
and irregular schedule that the music industry entails.
It’s a beautiful thing to watch her and my children interact, whether
she’s praising them or disciplining them. I truly want my daughters to
grow up and be what their mom is.
Happy Mother’s Day to my best friend, confidant, partner and soul mate. I love you, baby.
