Mike Tyson’s Latest Wedding: Blessing Or Bound For Disaster?

tysonIn the ongoing emotional rollercoaster that is Mike Tyson, the former heavyweight champ married his girlfriend, Lakiha Spicer in Las Vegas on Tuesday — a scant two weeks after his 4-year old daughter, Exodus was found dead in his Arizona home.

The owner of the La Bella Wedding Chapel said that Tyson and Spicer were married around 10 p.m. and that the couple seemed to “really love each other” and that Tyson “seemed happy.” In May, authorities determined that Exodus suffocated after she slipped or put her head through a cord that was hanging under the console of a treadmill in their home. No wrongdoing was found and the tragedy was officially deemed an accident. This is Tyson’s third marriage. He previous marriages were to actress Robin Givens in 1988 and Monica Turner in 1997. The 32-year-old Spicer is from Henderson, a suburb of Phoenix. She was not Exodus’ mother.

Tyson has been relatively high-profile in recent months for a variety of reasons, the tragic death of his daughter being the most obvious. But the former champion was also the subject of a captivating documentary that debuted at the Cannes Film Festival and made a well-received cameo appearance in the hit comedy, The Hangover.

Public opinion of Tyson remains mixed, but he garnered an outpouring of goodwill following his personal heartbreak. But, with so little time having passed since little Exodus died, is this wedding a sign that the volatile former fighter is still impulsive? Is this marriage just the result of an emotionally broken man trying to heal his wounds? –todd williams
