H-Town on Women, R&B and Remaining Faithful

h-townIt’s been years since the smooth crooning group, H-Town, was on the scene, tempting women with their offers to “knock da boots.” In the time that they’ve been away from the industry, they’ve lost one member (Dino) to a tragic car accident, and have naturally, done a lot of maturing. On the brink of releasing a new album, lead by their steamy single “Call Me Mr. Pac-Man,” we caught up with GI and Shazam at The Grafton hotel in L.A. to find out what they’ve been up to. –jh

You’ve been away for a while, what’s been going on?

Shazam: We had stopped performing and had been off the scene for a while with the death of my brother and everything but the fans brought us back. Me and GI decided to go on the road and we’ve been selling out shows everywhere. We wanted to do this album in the memory of my brother. We didn’t want the legacy of H-Town to die.

How’d you overcome the loss of your twin brother?

Shazam: You really never get over something like that. We’re not really over it, but we’ve tried to grab strength through God. We’re just making the best of the situation by honoring my brother and keeping the legacy alive.

How do you feel you influenced the R&B artists that are out now?

GI: I see a lot of influence especially when it comes to the dancing.

Shazam: A lot of groups have the twang of H-Town, but it’s all good.

What are some things a man should do to satisfy a woman.

Shazam: One of the key things is communication, and two, not be a selfish person. Three, spend time with your woman. And just listen. Sometimes women like to talk a lot, but just be that shoulder that she can lean on.

GI: Loving unconditionally and learning to understand each other and grow together. That’s the key … and faithfulness.

That’s a hard one for men, huh?

Shazam: I think for some men [it] is. But you get to that stage in your life [when] you realize that you have [the right] woman, [and] then it’s not really that hard.

GI: I think if it’s a person that you really want to be with, at the end of the day, you want to be respectful to that person and be faithful to that person.
