Line of work:
Actress and Comedian
Current day job:
Kim is the newest cast member on the TBS late-night comedy “10 Items or Less.”
Her thoughts on the show: “I had a blast doing the show. I was on four of the eight episodes this season as Mercedes P. Jones. I play the evil general manager of the Super Value Mart, and it’s a character that you’ve never seen me play before. No more lovable Sinclair — no, no. I’m mean and I’m bringing it. I’m also excited because the entire show is improv[ised], so everything that you see, the actors get to make up. The entire process has been a really freeing experience.”
Guilty pleasures: “I’m into astrology. I like finding out someone’s sign, and trying to break them down to see if I’m right. I also like to see who they would be compatible with.”
The key to her success: “Let me first say that if you are getting into show business strictly for the fame — then get out of it, because that may or may not happen, and fame is not what you think it is. I think that the main thing is to stay true to yourself and come up with your own … purpose, and understand that the entertainment industry will not make you who you are. So I try to stay grounded in who I am, and I don’t take jobs that I really do not want to do.”
Her thoughts on Obama’s inauguration: “I know that the inauguration is important, but honestly, Obama’s been my president for quite some time now. As soon as he started holding press conferences and appointing people to his cabinet, I just claimed it right then. He is already my president, and I know that he is going to do a wonderful job.”
The bottom line: Check out Coles on “10 Items or Less” every Tuesday at 11 p.m. on TBS.
