TUCKER, Ga. – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has selected Atlanta as the host city for its 2010 SIAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament. The event will be held March 1–6 and games will be played at Frank L. Forbes Arena on the campus of Morehouse College at the Atlanta University Center.

“One of the overarching priorities of the conference office involves working every day to maximize the championship experiences of both our student-athletes and fans. Moving the tournament back to Atlanta, one of the greatest destination cities in the country, will be a positive step forward in that regard” said SIAC commissioner Gregory Moore.

“We have also decided to move the championship finals from Sunday afternoon to Saturday evening, which we believe will enhance the exposure enjoyed by our student-athletes, and generate more excitement for our fans. In addition, during championship week there will be a host of entertainment, social and community engagement events within the Atlanta University Center and throughout the city of Atlanta.”

The 2010 tournament will mark the 77th year for this post season classic making it the oldest HBCU basketball tournament in America. The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, in its 97th season of intercollegiate competition, is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and participates at the Division II level.

The SIAC is home to thirteen Historically Black Colleges and Universities located within a five-state footprint in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Members include Albany State; Benedict; Claflin; Clark Atlanta; Fort Valley State; Kentucky State; Lane; LeMoyne-Owen; Miles; Morehouse; Paine; Stillman and Tuskegee.
