Hoodie Awards Goodies: Kim Whitley Rebuilds America’s Schools in ‘School Pride’

altWe are painfully aware of the deplorable state of our public educational system in America. Equally horrid, and in many instances worse, are the health hazards called physical structures that millions of kids are forced go into to receive their substandard education. Comedian Kim Whitley is seeking to change that in a big way with her new show, “School Pride.”

Backstage at the Steve Harvey Hoodie Awards, Whitley announced that through the NBC show that airs on Oct. 15, she has traveled across the country and helped to renovate schools so that the physical structures can have an atmosphere that is more conducive to learning.

“We’re going across America. We hope this show does well so that we [can] go into all [the] neighborhood schools. It’s like ‘Extreme Home Makeover’ but we’re renovating schools across the country. A lot of schools need it, so [I] hope that the show does well,” says Whitley, who has already overseen the transformation of schools in Baton Rouge, La., and Detroit. “It don’t matter — black, white, Asian or Hispanic — we’re coming in there.”
