HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – Tight-bodied beauty Meagan Good and her older sister La’Myia are about to show theatergoers what really pops off behind the scenes to young women ensnared in the music video culture in the film Video Girl. The all-star cast includes legendary actress-activist Ruby Dee and LisaRaye.
The Good sisters said they also play sisters in the provocative, poignant piece about a lost young woman who gets devoured after succumbing to the irresistible temptations and trappings that being a video girl can offer. Ironically, the film will also star Melyssa Ford, a woman who achieved moderate notoriety for being a video vixen. Directed by up-and-coming director Ty Hodges, the film also features Yung Joc, Juelz Santana, Bobby V and Bun B.
“It’s very reminiscent of the movie that Angelina Jolie did a few years ago. It’s an amazing film. It chronicles the life of this young woman who is trying to find herself and gets involved in the music video world and everything that happens behind the scenes that people don’t know,” Meagan Good said.
Wearing an eye-popping, low-cut flowing white dress that scarcely covered her ample posterior while carefully treading the red carpet at the 20th NAACP Theater Awards, Meagan shared the beauty of black theater.
“With theater, you do not have the opportunity to say ‘stop’ or ‘cut’ and I feel that it really matures you in your craft. … It is honest,” she said.
La’Myia Good concurred. The singer-actress, who rose to stardom early in the decade through the R&B group Isyss (their best work was the CD The Way We Do, which included the Hot 100 charting singles “Day & Night” featuring rapper Jadakiss and their signature song “Single for the Rest of My Life”) was overjoyed to be at the Theater Awards.
“I am thrilled, estatic to be here at the Theater Awards. The company in here is just incredible,” she said before explaining why she loves theater. “I hate to say this because it’s going to sound bad, but it’s the instant gratification knowing that the audience can feel what you are doing at that moment.” –terry shropshire
