Name: Mitchell McElroy. The 26-year-old University of Houston graduate is a writer, editor, political pundit and YouTube show host.
Blog name: The Perspective
Background: “ ‘The Perspective’ is a blog that I created to share and discuss my views with the world. I created ‘The Perspective’ in 2009 with the concept that every op-ed and blog post would be one that attempts to analyze mainstream political, social, and general topics from a perspective that requires a deeper thought process than usual.”
How his site differs from other blog sites: “There are bloggers of all sorts on the Internet and I believe that at this point it’s quite difficult to be completely original with a blogging concept. However, I would suggest my blog to those who enjoy an analytical perspective that might challenge traditional thought.”
On staying relevant: “Simply put, I’m a news junkie. I examine various types of news stories from a wide range of sources every day. When I find that I have a unique perspective or a deep interest in a topic that I come across, then I will blog about it.”
On feedback from readers: “I am very appreciative of all feedback that my blogs generate. I believe it’s imperative to treat those who comment on my blog with respect. I’m never dismissive of comments that are left on my blog by subscribers and visitors, even when they are contrary to my own beliefs.”
Tips for aspiring bloggers: “The best tip that I can offer anyone who wants to run a blog or any web based business that involves current events is to stay consistent. No matter what, you have to remain consistent because people will forget all about you very quickly due to the never-ending information sources that the Internet provides.”
Next on the agenda: “I am currently working on a YouTube show called ‘Your Perspective’ It’s a show that is hosted by me and contains various street interviews with ordinary people in an attempt to put a real face to the opinions. I am also currently working on an online local subjective newspaper called The Houston Perspective. The Houston Perspective is different from other online news sites because we are very subjective and although all of our news stories contain the facts and details of the story, they also contain the opinions of the writer of the article.”
