Flavor Flav, who opened Flav’s Fried Chicken in Clinton, Iowa last month, now wants to return to high school there and document his time in school in a new reality show he’s appropriately dubbing “Flavor Flav Goes Back To High School.”
The 51-year-old rapper, born William Drayton, grew up in Freeport, Long Island, New York, where as a self-taught musical prodigy and self-proclaimed wild child he dropped out of school in the tenth grade.
Last week, Flav pitched his reality show idea to the town’s local school superintendent and a school board member. He plans on pitching the idea to the full school board in a couple of weeks.
Although over-the-top, it’s not exactly a surprise that Flav wants to document his academic conquest on television.
The rapper, whose original claim to fame was as a member of the pioneering 80s hip-hop group Public Enemy, transformed himself from an over-the-hill emcee to a VH1 reality show superstar on shows like The Surreal Life, Strange Love and the pop culture phenomenon Flavor of Love.
Do you think Flav’s show idea will make it to TV? Albeit justifiably self-serving, will it be perceived as a departure from the coonery he’s infamous for from “Flavor of Love?” –nicholas robinson
