Petey Pablo, the North Carolina rapper who made us all “Raise Up” and swish our T-shirts around our heads in 2001, is facing major jail time after pleading guilty on March 16 to possession of a stolen firearm.
According to the Associated Press, the rapper, born Moses Barrett III, entered into a guilty plea agreement with federal prosecutors in exchange for them dropping two other charges; possession of a firearm by a felon and attempting to take the gun onto the plane.
The charges stemmed from Pablo’s arrest at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport on Sept. 11, 2010, when airport security discovered a 9mm handgun and ammunition in his carry-on luggage after it passed through an X-Ray machine.
It was later discovered that the gun was stolen, making matters even worse for the convicted felon.
In November 2010, Pablo’s representatives told tmz.com that the rapper was unaware that the gun was in his bag. Pablo claimed that he’d taken the gun from a friend who was threatening to use it and forgotten that he’d left the firearm in his bag.
Pablo now faces up to 10 years in prison and will be sentenced in June. This won’t be the first time the rapper has spent time behind bars. Pablo spent six years in prison for armed robbery in the ’90s.
