PORT-AU-PRINCE – Singer and hip hop artist Wyclef Jean was shot last night in his native country Haiti. The incident occurred on the eve of Haiti’s presidential elections, in which Jean is supporting fellow musician Michel Martelly.
Jean was reportedly ambushed by a group of men and the skirmish led to the former presidential hopeful being shot in the hand. A spokesman for the singer said he was treated at the hospital for the gunshot wound and released a short time after.
Jean’s brother, Samuel, confirmed the shooting to the media but provided no further details. Sources say the incident occurred after 11 p.m. local time Saturday in the city of Delmas, just outside Port-au-Prince.
