When promoters announced that Lupe Fiasco would be performing in Chicago on Saturday, March 26, to celebrate the release of his new album, Lasers, Chicagoans rushed to buy tickets so they could witness the hip-hop artist’s homecoming.

The show sold out within 48 hours.

Concertgoers arrived to Chicago’s House of Blues by 9 p.m., filling the venue to capacity. They were enthused by Melody Hill’s performance as well as the rap cypher featuring local Chicago rappers. Then, after a two-hour intermission, the crowd grew antsy and chanted, “We Want Lupe!”

Lupe finally hit the stage shortly after midnight and the crowd went into a frenzy.

He opened with the controversial song, “Words I Never Said.”

He rapped, “Limbaugh is a racist. Glenn Beck is a racist. Gaza strip was getting bombed, Obama didn’t say s—. That’s why I ain’t vote for him, next one either. I’m a part of the problem, my problem is I’m peaceful”

Other songs performed off his highly-successful albumLasers, included “Out of My Head,” “Beautiful Lasers,” “Show Goes On,” and “I’m Beamin’.”

Lupe delved deeply into his three-album catalog and performed past hits “Superstar” and “Kick, Push;” and he closed the show with the Grammy-nominated single, “Daydreamin’.”

Although a few fans craved more, the Chicago native teased them with a set that served as a prelude to his summer tour. –a.r.
