Veteran singer Brandy Norwood is facing a new legal drama after filing a civil extortion lawsuit against international DJ Marc Mysterio and his management alleging that she and her family are the victims of a multimillion dollar extortion attempt.
According to radaronline.com, Mysterio and his management are already suing Norwood, claiming she breached a contract between the two and failed to perform with him.
However, in a countersuit filed March 27 in the Los Angeles County Superior Court by Norwood, the singer is claiming that a contract with Mysterio was never completed and that she never agreed to perform with him.
“After a brief discussion about a potential joint recording project, Ms Norwood claims that she informed the Cross-Defendants that she did not wish to provide voice over services to them,” she claims in the lawsuit. “Cross-Defendants then filed a complaint alleging amongst other things breach of contract, even though the parties did not come to completing a contract, written, oral or implied.”
In the countersuit, Norwood also alleges that Mysterio and his management “maliciously” named her mother and brother’s record label in the lawsuit in an attempt to force her to pay.
The lawsuit finishes with Norwood claiming that Mysterio and his “cronies” have disparaged her name in the media and that they should pay for the damages done to her and her family.
“Brandy claims the Cross-Defendants have taken every opportunity to disparage her name, having made countless statements to media outlets impugning Brandy’s character and honesty with false remarks,” the suit claims. “The shakedown tactics and misuse of the media and the legal process are unconscionable. Marc Mysterio and his cronies should be made to pay — not profit from — these unlawful and inappropriate acts.”
Norwood has yet to inform the court of the financial damages she’s seeking.
