For fans of hip-hop, finding a strong and unified sorority of female emcees among the fraternity loving world of hip-hop can be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. And although many expect today’s sparse number of lady spitters to be clawing at each others throats for their time in the limelight, veteran rapper Eve is saying that she has no problem with other female emcees, namely current top dog rapper Nicki Minaj.
In a recent interview on the BBC Radio 1xtra Tim Westwood show, the “Pitbull in a Skirt” explained that she’s a fan of today’s crop of female emcees, especially the Harajuku Barbie.
“You know, it’s definitely a nice group of females that’s out representing, but because I come from hip-hop, I need more females in hip-hop,” said Eve. “Nicki definitely is holding the flag down, and a lot of people be wanting me to hate just because that’s how girls supposed to do in hip-hop, but I’m loving everything she does. But we need more females, man. There’s too much testosterone in the hip-hop game.”
And although Eve has love for Nicki, most of the world already knows that fellow emcee Lil Kim is far from friendly with the Young Money emcee. But Eve believes that Kim should squash the beef with Nicki, if for nothing more than her own sake.
“I need her to stop. If I was Kim’s friend, I’d be like, yo. ‘cause she’s Kim, period,” said Eve. “So she never has to feed [into the beef]. She shouldn’t. It’s bad. It’s not a good look. If I was her friend, I’d tell her, yo, just come back bigger and better. The best way to get at people is to do you better than you’ve ever done you. So that’s it.”
Although Eve may or may not be able to help end the beef between the two, she does plan to bring her voice back into the hip-hop scene later this year when her long-delayed fourth studio album, Lip Lock, hits stores.
