After being injured in a devastating watercraft accident on May 29, Jamaican singer Sean Kingston’s condition has been upgraded from critical to stable at a Miami hospital.
As reported yesterday, Kingston and an unidentified female passenger were injured after their jet ski crashed into the Palm Island Bridge at approximately 6:00 p.m.
“Sean was heading west from the MacArthur Causeway and Miami Beach Islands when his personal watercraft collided with the bridge, and he and his female passenger ended up in the water,” Jorge Pino, spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, the lead investigative agency of the accident, told PEOPLE. “A good Samaritan tended to the two of them until Miami Beach Fire Rescue arrived and saw there were injuries.”
According to TMZ, one of Kingston’s rescuers, an off-duty Coast Guard, Jonathan Rivera, along with friend Jimmy Vega, was called over to the accident by a man and a woman on a jet ski who were already trying to help Kingston.
Upon their arrival, Rivera and Vega jumped into the water to help Kingston, who’d lost his life-jacket, stay afloat and Vega noticed that a conscious Kingston “had a gash up under his chin” and was “puking up blood out of his mouth.”
After paramedics arrived, Kingston was rushed to the emergency room of the Jackson Ryder Trauma Center.
After initially being listed in critical condition, Kingston’s publicist, Joseph Carozza, has now revealed that the “Beautiful Girls” singer has been stabilized and moved to the intensive care unit.
“Sean Kingston is now stabilized and has moved from the trauma unit to ICU,” Kingston’s publicist said in a public statement. “Sean’s family thanks everyone for their prayers and support during this time.”
