Mark Jackson is mostly known for his quick wit and aggressive commentary as an NBA broadcaster. Apparently, Jackson used that same gift of gab to persuade the Golden State Warriors to hire him as their next head coach.
Jackson signed a three-year deal worth $6 million and will begin the process of hiring assistant coaches once the NBA Finals are over.
However, Jackson could face an uphill battle because he has never coached basketball on any level. He’s also taking over a talented young team that could still be experiencing growing pains in the 2011-12 season. Currently, there are rumors that the team will trade star Monte Ellis to the Philadelphia 76ers for Andre Iguodala. That proposed trade would change the dynamics of the team with the NBA Draft looming.
But while Jackson will have to learn how to manage NBA personalities and create plays that will put his team in the best position to win, his take-charge New York attitude should help him adjust rather quickly.
