Laurence Fishburne Quits 'CSI' to Find Next 'Boyz N the Hood' or 'Matrix'

Laurence Fishburne declined to renew his contract with hit show “CSI,” bowing out just shy of three seasons of playing Dr. Raymond Langston. But, man did he get paid while he was on the set.

It is reported that the Academy Award-nominated actor is returning to the movies in hopes of making more classics like Boyz N the Hood, What’s Love Got to do With It? and, of course, the Matrix franchise.

Fishburne had an exensive price tag attached to him and it was considered a risky move to recruit him for “CSI.” Petersen and Helgenberger were a winning team for nine seasons, and “CSI” was a primetime ratings grabber for CBS. However, by the time Petersen left, the veteran show was starting to hemorrhage viewers.

Fishburne was judged to be worth his estimated $14 million salary in his first season. But, by the end of season 11, the ratings went on a slow but steady decline from “CSI’s” glory days, and it dropped out of the top 10 for the first time since it became a hit a decade ago.
