The African Pride “My Pride. My Way” Beauty Suite was the ultimate beauty lounge during the 2011 Essence Music Festival, with over 600 ladies gathering together at the luxurious Le Pavillon Hotel on Saturday, June 2. Women were able to enjoy great music, complimentary hair and makeup services, massages, signature “My Pride. My Way” cocktails and a chance to win a one-year supply of My African Pride hair care products.

Talking Pretty was honored to be selected by My African Pride to speak at the Beauty Suite along with three other beauty bloggers, including Leigh Davenport from HelloBeautiful, Kimberly Walker from BET.com and Demetria Irwin from Madame Noire. Guests got a chance to meet all of the beauty bloggers and continued the conversation surrounding African Pride’s nationally charged “My Pride. My Way” campaign.

Talking Pretty’s beauty editor, McKenzie Harris, felt that interaction with her guests was most important. First, various beauty secrets were traded amongst the crowd of attentive women followed by a very special prize on the line for a lucky

guest who answered a selection of beauty trivia questions correctly. The questions ranged from who could name the hair-removal technique that began in India to who is the celebrity makeup artist who has worked on one of the most famous faces in TV talk show history for more than 20 years? The answers are eyebrow threading and Reggie Wells, for those who got a little stuck. The winner won a one-year supply of African Pride beauty products and literally screamed for joy.

Celebrity appearances were made by actress Naturi Naughton as well as the 2011 Miss Black Louisiana. The My African Pride Beauty Suite was certainly an event you did not want to miss, but, if you did, then here is a chance for you to take a look at some of the lovely moments from the event below. The African Pride Beauty Suite and “My Pride. My Way” campaign promotes healthy hair care, celebrating the individual style, innovation and beauty of all women because “When it comes to hair, we write our own rules.” –mckenzie harris
