David Banner Addresses V-Nasty's Use of the N-Word and Takes Aim at 'Ignorant Rap' on New Song

David Banner has decided to take a stand against rappers who continue to dumb down the music and the fans who follow it. In his new song “Swag,” Banner addresses Caucasian rapper V-Nasty’s use of the N-word, ridicules the black rappers who defend her use of the word. and mocks Lil B’s persistent use of the word “Swag.”

The song starts with the sound bite, “It’s not about whether blacks should use the [N-word], that’s a black conversation. And white folks, and anyone who isn’t black should stay out of that conversation and let black folks deal with it.” The sound bite fades out and the beat, which features thunderous snares and 808 drums, comes on as Banner begins to rap.

“Everybody in my city pushing Ki’s [Kilos of cocaine] and that’s all they see, if that’s the only thing they see than that’s the only thing they’ll be. Swag. Swag. Swag. The homies are busting slugs and the women are shaking a–, a white girl call us n—a and we just sit back and laugh. Swag. Swag. Swag.”

He also refers to many of today’s rappers as Mantan, a popular 1930s actor who was ridiculed for being a black stereotype.

Although “Swag” may not reach the ears of those who need to hear it most,  Banner makes an honest attempt to enlighten a rap culture that often seems unwilling to embrace substantive music. –amir shaw
